Just finished a new set of scales and was wondering if it's necessary to peen the wedge. It's glued up nice and nearly finished, seems to be secure. Just think there are too
many possibility of things to go wrong by continuing.. Should I peen it or would leaving it as is be considered bad form. Attachment 180098
Yes,you should peen the wedge IMO
If you drop the razor and it falls on the scales, changes are it will come loose at the wedge. Opening and closing a razor does bring flex in your scales eventually resulting in your wedge coming loose. Unless the wooden scales were made out of one piece I would suggest you peen it.
I'm sure it can be done with the right adhesives, but I couldn't tell you what would work. If you're unsure, you should pin it.
I guess it depends on how long you want the wedge to stay tight. Adhesives lose their strength over time, and some can fall apart all together.
I would recommend pinning if you want the razor to last.
Not much of a debate on this. I went ahead and peened it.

There is actually a good amount of stress on the scales from the flexing when opening and closing. Better safe than sorry I would just pin it. By the way nice marblewood scales.
