I have a really nice Hunter and Sons wedge with REALLY thick ivory scales. Unfortunately there is a crack running through the hinge pin. Currently I just used CA glue to secure it but thats about it. I'm thinking I should just get the scale replaced with another piece of Ivory to match.

I would PM geezer aka Richard. He has pretty good knowledge on these things. Pixelfixed aka Bill is also very knowledgable on the subject of ivory. It is a little tricky to work with, it is durable but when it reaches the final straw it tend to be a little catastrophic. If you could get the one side replaced it would be the best long term solution.
I would replace it with a new pen, and did not waste time on this. IMHO
That cannot be repaired,granted, people will come along and say you can put some sort of bolster on the inner surface than re-glue.
But thats not a fix.
The scale has to be replaced,JMO

The problem is where do you get new scales, plural. You will not be able to match up the two. This is going to be a bigger potential problem with all ivory in the future, even fossil mammoth, not just the currently legal pre-ban elephant product.
Not that long ago Sharpton did a thread on matching up scales. I just recently replaced on side of a set using pretty much his tutorial as a guide.

If you or anyone else need ivory, I just dropped an e-mail to Joe at Cue Components here in Florida asking if he will do razor scale sized slabs. he is one of the few reputable legal ivory dealers who has a lot of good stuff on hand for the custom pool cue builders. I'll let you know what I hear from him. This may be a situation of get it now what with all of the political stuff gong on lately.
