Dremels and Buffers and scratch marks, OH MY!

You should have to receive instruction and be licensed before being able to buy these tools :rofl2:

I think that these two blades where damaged on a buffer as the scratches bridge different areas of the blade I don't think a dremel wheel would.

What is most maddening is that you can see around the scratches and untouched areas that a little polishing paste would have made these blades like new. :cen

Yes you cannot help but wonder what the heck prompted someone to do such a thing when as you said the untouched portions of the blade look so good!

Reminds me of the Joseph Elliot "Damascus" razor I purchased, the seller thought that the big belly on the razor, a beautiful smiling blade, was the result of age or damage, and bread knifed the edge perfectly straight, a cringe worthy crime on another piece of history.:confused:

A day or two of reading here and this could have been avoided.

Wow, that is pretty rough. I guess they just called it quits after making a mess of it. You got it looking great though!

I agree it looks like a wire wheel on grinder. I and others would admit to buying a razor they should have looked at a little more before buying. Once you buy it, you own the good and the bad. When I have one in my hand, I have learned to look for the bad and not the good. That was after I bought a few that I should have walked from. Clean it up as much as you can, hone it and shave away. My best blades are very nice, but the worse looking one shaves the best.

I do not see a way to restore it. The blade is too thin to remove all that mess. I think it would destroy the razor.

I am sure a few of our heavy hitters will chime in.

I was lucky in that overall the condition of the bow razor's steel was excellent, just the stupid scratches ruining it.
I'm still working on the frameback.
