I want something in a bright fire engine type red. Any material will do. I've looked at acrylics and G10 but they seem a little drab, at least how they are represented on line. If anyone has had a hands on look at something that will fit the bill, let me know.
I know Val at the Gentleman's Den is quite fond of Beyond Wood Products - they have some stellar stuff in reds, greens, etc...check it out:

As far as I can tell, that's all resin-wood hybrid and very nice but marbled in color. What I'm looking for is a bright solid red.Quote:

You may be able to get samples from a plastics place for cheap. You could also shop around for clipboards, which would let you see the material in person.
You could also try your local signwriter. They might have some offcuts that you may be able to get gratis.
I've used this for wedges and spacers it comes in 3mm and 5mm and it would make an excellent scale material if that's what you wanted it for. PS here's a Puma I restored where I used it for the wedge and spacer.

Why not PVC? It's cheap, freakinlgy chemical and mechanical resistant, and have a nice, uniform solid color. I can assure you it will outlast acrylic.

Why not plain plexiglass, painted to what ever color of red you want and then sealed with 5 or 6 coats of varnish?
Easy, cheap, durable, and just about any color you can dream up.

Hello, I have some African Bloodwood, extremely hard, not fire engine but probably the brighest red of any wood, throw some good oil on it and it really snaps.

PVC is horrible to work with & melts more than it sands. At least the stuff I've used.

I can't think of anything else except the Red Imp scales Wirm mentioned! I know someone on here with some Red Imp scales that have a junk blade! You could always turn them inside out to get rid of the Red Imp etching. He offered them to me because I have a better blade than the one he has but the blade I have has hone wear but it isn't junk like his. I'll tell you who it is if you want. Besides, I have myself a nice Red Imp with very little wear so I'd be more than happy to share this member with you. I also looked at what Jamie showed here:
