New scales - easier than I thought
I took my first crack and making new scales this past weekend. I actually outfitted an older razor with new scales - made a couple of mistakes but was willing to live with it. Then yesterday morning my Dovo scales cracked at the pin. Thinking I would just super glue them I continued to shave. Then a little piece broke off and I watched helplessly as it went down the drain! OK so - now I needed new scales on the Dovo. Used a nice piece of burled maple I got online for the older razor. Turned out OK. Lots of sanding and just some tung oil for the finish.

Is that maple burl or curly maple?
What all tools did you use?
Burled maple. I used very simple tools. Hand held coping saw to cut out the basic shape, 80, 100, 220 grit sandpaper to get the shape I wanted then from 600 to 2000 for the finish as well 0000 steel wool after coating with tung oil. I used a dremel drill setup to drill the holes (but should have used my drill press) - I will next time. Nothing fancy.
