Any Advice Before Proceeding w/ Scales?

I'm working on some scales and I am REALLY close to completion. If I could get just one set of scales done right and fit the wedge that would save me +$80, so I really don't won't to screw them up!!!

The G-10 is coming along. This is what I had in mind.

I was planning on using the drilled scale as a guide to drill the other one.
Then I was going to file/sand the edges so they were flush/square.
I'm filing the scales at a shallow angle because I want to make the whole width of the scale to be slightly rounded like the originals.
After I get all the shaping and sanding done I was going to polish them with micro mesh pads.
Any suggestions?

I had some help shaping the wood scales. I mixed adaline dye to color them and finished them with CA glue.
Problem: The inside of the scales are slightly convexed so there is a small gap when you put the two scales together.
Should I try to concave the wedge or try to flatten the inside of the scales and refinish them?

Judging by your wood scales you have everything under control, they look terrific. If it is convex then that would be a bad thing, even a little bit would prevent the wedge from properly mating with the scales.

I cut out the wood scales with a jigsaw (when I had the opportunity to use one) and drilled them out, but someone else actually shaped the top of them (long story). I knew someone would think that which I why mentioned I had help with them. So, I want to make sure I don't make any more mistakes with these!

I see, after you flatten them you need to attach them together with double sided, carpet type, tape and then drill them while you still have some flat surface left to keep the holes square. Joined together you can shape them perfectly alike and better judge symmetry when shaping. A piece of masking tape on the inside of each scale before the double sided tape will make it easier to separate later.

Just saw your post. I put the scales together and used the drilled one as a guide for the other. I got part of the shaping done. I'm not sure if I'm going to polish them back to shiny black, or leave them textured after I finish shaping them.:confused:

I really want to get this one ready to use and see how it shaves compared to my W&B 8/8 FBU wedge that gssixgun honed for me.:hmmm:

I need to get them straightened/evened out a little and then I'll start progressing through the grits. Hopefully I can get the scales finished and the razor fitted in the next couple of days.
