I picked up an old english razor in bone pique scales. The scales are warped. Any suggestions on straightening bone?
I have an older razor with the same issue. Is the blade rubbing or not closing? If it's not I would probably just leave them rather than risk breaking the scales. Can you post some pictures?
I will post a pic when I get the razor apart to clean it up. The bone is very thin and warped away from the blade on the show side. Prominently so at the escutcheon, however it is not interfering with the edge. I won't risk breaking it...was secretly hoping there was an "easy" way to correct it.
While I have "dipped my toe into the water" on pique work, It is not something I wish to attempt duplicating!

Ricketts was very common in England at one stage due to a lack of nutrition. You should try soaking them in something with plenty of vitamin C.:idea:Quote:

I have heard of bone scales being soaked in neatsfoot oil, this might help them if then dried flat in a jig, With a hair dryer or something maybe ??
