cracked during restore

Whilst doing some hand sanding on my shumate deluxe project the sudden urge to piss (probably from the 4 mountain dews i had earlier in the day) hit me. Came back into the living room to find my 3 year old with a screw driver in 1 hand and my now cracked shumate in the other. The crack is only 1/2inch in from the toe. But its a bad all the way through and ya trying not to cry a little.Just curious as to what i should do. Options being toss the blade and keep the faux tortoise scales as the seem to be in a useable state. Or shorten the over length of the razor. Any thoughts?If i end up keeping it and trying to shorten should i1) dermel with cutting wheel sitting on a block of ice to keep it cool?2) slowly use a file to take off the toe where the crack is starting at the spine?Any advice and thoughts appreciated.

There is not a snowballs chance in you know where that you will be able to successfully do anything with a file. I have cut a razors down before. Cutting on an ice cube is a little dramatic. You are on the right track as far as maintaining a cool blade while cutting. There are several threads on the subject here. The readers digest version is use a wet and cold cloth to prevent heat build up. Always cut in from the edge up to the spine. Mind the direction of rotation. Go slow and always think a step ahead of what will happen if...
Also do not leave unattended straights while kids are around. Major safety violation!

Dremel it is then haha. And ya never again would have been a worse night had it been any near sharp. Need to get a computer so i can start posting pics of progress on this thing. It would make life 10x easier. Sorry for the million edits keep forgetting stuff. Last thing just wanted to thank you :)

A trick I use when using a Dremel or buffers is keep a finger on the blade near where you are working and have a glass of water handy. If buffing I keep a finger on the opposite side of the blade, when grinding, etc. with a Dremel, near the spot you are working on. When you feel some heat stop and dip blade in water for a few to cool.

This could have much much worse(even with a "dull" razor). I hope you used this opportunity to put a healthy fear of razors into your child. I also hope that you now have a healthy fear of leaving razors in reach of youngsters. Sorry about the lecture but I feel it needs to be addressed in this thread. That being said, I would shorten the tip with a Dremmel and shorten the scales to match. But only if it's a blade that would be worth the effort when finished. It would be cool if you could post pics of your progress.

This no id never do. Room had gf and her friend along with duaghter. Like in my reply to bejay seems like a wake up call a bit for me. Seems i cant trust my gf to watch anything other then the tv.
I do however take full responsibility for the fact that my ignorance left the razor there. That was a mistake i will NOT be making twice

Ya pics would help, but I hope you get by with cutting it down, hopefully it won't just keep cracking the whole length. Nothing wrong with a shorty, my Max Sprecher shorty is my favorite edge trimmer. Tc
