Thanks Mike
Was hoping more of the gang would chime in while I was hoping to teach a brother a little something, but I believe we did ok.
Wanted to kinda explain to him that you dont need to sand away at all blades, some you do. His was pretty much a simple clean up and polish. But hey... We all want those perfect blades when we first start restoring, but learn after we mess up a few, that not all can be brought back to being perfect.
But we can make them like new by doing just a little clean-up job on them. [emoji6]
I appreciated the help man. I definately had newbie polising fever. So far the 'Hess' is ok.. both sides polished up to 2000. From your pics i see what you mean though.. a simple clean up would have been sufficient.
I have been soaking up as much information as possible. Yesterday i made a jig to hold the razor, and i used a cork with sandpaper. It definately sped up the process. From this point forward ill remember to make a better assessment of what a blade really needs to look good before i start sanding the heck out of it!
As I have said elsewhere...
Go Backwards! Start with a polish with a rag. Needs more work? using some buffing compound. Needs more work? Use some 1500-2000 grit. Needs more work? Use some 1000 Grit. While it may seem slower and as stated, "backwards" You eliminate needless sanding. It takes a LOT of work to remove 400 grit scratches compared to 2000 grit! a LOT!
Take your time, stop and re assess frequently. You are already on a good path. =)
Good Luck!
Done workin on the ol' Hess
Polished the blade and the scales..
