I like this blade and am pretty new. I wasn't able to see this before I bought it.

I was talking about straight razor shaving around my dad and he came back with this blade he had sitting around.
Welcome to SRP. The first one, the one you bought sight unseen, looks very questionable. Hard to tell what that is on the blade, if it is pitting and is too deep into the bevel as you hone it and cut away metal, the edge will fall apart and resemble Swiss cheese. Unless you can get to good solid steel it will never shave. OTOH, maybe that stuff isn't deep and will buff off.
The one your dad gave you could be honed past the chip. You'd lose some blade, but it could be brought to shave ready from what I see. :gl:
If the pits were not so close to the edge it would be a problem..
That said they ARE close to the edge and you would have a hard time getting a good shaving edge on that particular razor IMO...
Bottom one can be saved.....
That was my assessment based on having no razor experience. I am a welder by trade and have worked with metals and grinding so I figured as much for the 1st one. With how clean and shiny it came, I'm sure the seller tried to buff it away.

Well if it was me, and I could return it for a refund I would. If you are going to keep it try honing past the corrosion to good steel. It will either go past the pitting, or it will fall apart as you go.Quote:

Yes on the first one. Pitting will alwayse be on the cutting edge and you will probably never get a good hone. On the other hand, it would make a good honing practice razor. The second will clean up and you can hone out that chip on the edge.
