I acquired a couple of ERN razors from Ebay and noticed that there is some staining on the blades. The photos are from the Ebay listings. The staining seems more prevalent on the black razor.
Has this staining been caused by trapped water between the blade and scales? Can this be removed, and if so, what would be the best way to remove this and with what tools? I'm new to straight razors, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not much of a mark from what I see. Mother's polishing compound is mentioned on here, I use Maas. Avoid power tools. As for cause... shipping wear? I have some old ones that have a dark line. Those were likely water damage. Apparenly early plactics will "outgass" and cause blades to corrode. Odds are a bit of polish will have yours looking new.

If you are going to use a polishing compound do not go over the gold etching as it will remove that pdq like. Cover the gold etching with something like painters tape and very carefully work around it. Very nice condition razors.

Thanks for the replies guys. What kind of oil would you recommend when it comes to storing razors? I've seen people mention mineral oil, WD40, gun oil and baby oil. What do you find works for you the best?

Top one almost looks like something has dried on the blade. Could even have been oiled but dried out. Start with soap and a cloth. As Bob said be careful of the gold wash that will come off quick.
