Started work on "Genuine Rattler"

Found some MAAS today :D I thought it was a white paste, this stuff is pink. Anyhow I got a good deal of gunk off the blade and monkey tail, that I didn't realize was so long. This is the first straight that arrived when I started buying a few. It was filthy and cruddy and I had nothing to work it with so it went in the drawer. I used to be an oblique tip but the re-scale job was to short and I'm thinking they broke off the tip, easy fix. There is a bit of hone wear and it has an uneven edge... boy do I have some work to do :p

Well I did buy this so I had something to work on...

this one has serious hone wear but I like it :)

I remember surfing Ebite one late night threw beer goggles (not recommended) and seeing this one about to close for cheap, "Wow that would be fun to practice working on!!" and bought it. I'm glad I did as I've come to like the looks and will be looking for a better one like it (just cause). I do plan on doing all the work on this myself so it's not going to be pretty, but I hope it will be sturdy and functional... We shall see :p

You should try to grind the tip to more of a spanish-point so that the 'clipped end' is not there. If those scales don't work out, another idea would be to have one of our 'in house' mold-makers make a replicate cast of it!

I really like the extended tail on that blade!!!

Well it took a while but I'm now working on fixing the washboard edge :p

I taped up the spine as I'm on the 320 DMT plate. First thing I did was to grind the edge flat, removing the high parts of the edge. Than laying it down I did a few dozen circles to put the edge back. Didn't think it would take that long but it did... about 45 minutes to re-establish an edge. Next set will be refining the edge on a 1200 King. I'm sure it's all down hill now, with the edge back on... ( I think my DMT is a vampire, it ground off my fingertips, and liked it!!)

Well I did about (lost count) 15 passes on the 1200 King and jumped to the 4k/8k Norton for a basic pyramid. Only took a few minutes and it was popping hairs off my hands :)

Now to find some scales :D The ones I took off this one are cool and all but I'm thinking they are to worn to try using them. Maybe on a shorter razor at another time...

Thats going to be a nice looking razor when it's done. I like the razors with a longer monkey tail I've been looking for just the right one myself.

Well I finally got the 1/16" rod to get some scales attached :D

This is a pair of scales I took off a broken "Army & Navy" razor that no one bid on :p I just wanted the scales so all works :D

It still has a bit of an uneven edge but it's close enough to hone up and shave with. If it wasn't for the long tail I'd have set this up for sale as a newbee starter, due to it's hone wear it's kind of low on the shave ladder but it still shaves well. Till I find a "Newer" one it stays :D

Thought I'd let those interested in this one see where it's at. Still have about an hours work left on it but it's close enough at the moment...
