Joseph Elliots - first set of scales
Hi All
This is my third ever restoration. First set of scales, second set of pins. These scales are made from Beech, as is the spacer. They are finished only with bees wax at the moment as I like the natural wood, but I am worried about water damage. If anyone has any ideas on how to retain the natural look of the wood but offer more protection that would be great.
Pins are 1/16th brass rod with #0w washers, and there are two #0w washers inside as well as bearings. The spacer was by far and away the hardest part of this job, though the blade was also challenging due to the amount of rust. It looks ok now, but I daren't do any more in case I wreck it. I was already pretty vicious with the dremel and sandpaper.
Shaves OK - not nearly where I would like it to be, but as I have shaved with it, and I did not hack my face to pieces or end up with the same facial hair as when I started, its a successful resto. Just need to work on the edge a little now.
So I throw myself upon your mercy - its only my first set of scales so be gentle.
