Is it possible to make your own pins?

I want some pins to rescale razors; however, I don't want to go to the lengths of ordering from abroad and waiting 2 weeks. Is it possible to make pins from basic materials without sacrificing quality?
Any ideas?
If not where can I get pins from? (I already found the ones on classicshaving and ebay)

I'd also like some info on this. I know you can use 1/16 brass rod and cut it for the pins, but I have no idea where to buy that. I also don't know where to pick up #0 or #00 washers, or spacers to rest the blade on, or washers to act as blade bearings. And I'd like some more options on types of metal besides the brass (for color reasons)

Anyone on here have suggestions for where to get all this stuff in bulk?

You'll have no trouble getting what you need in the States, especiallly in the New York area, try www.microfasteners.com for the washers... you can also try www.brownells.com for all kinds of good stuff.

For alternative materials you might consider nickel/silver brazing rod, if you can find it in 1/16 (pretty sure you can)

Spacing material is usually plactic sheet 0.005" thick, this can be got from good hobby supply stores.

hobby stores carry pretty much everything you need (you know, the place where they sell remote control cars, planes, rockets, model kits and the place swarms with 15 year olds with thick framed glasses) you can also find stuff on ebay.

Has anyone ever tried using wire hangers to cut-up for pins? :thinking:

I've always wondered if they would work, or if the metal was too soft....I'm thinking the latter. BUT, I guess if I really want to know, I should just get off my lazy ass and try it myself...

hangers work only to practice peening on. they are too soft and bend easily

What about silver wire? I have some floating arond from when I was doing wire and bead work. Some of the silver wire can be quite hard.
