I have read that some guys use scotch tape over the etching to preserve it. Know that any polish you use will degrade, or flat remove the gold on the blade. I think the tape would be the way to go.
Also just soap and water with a tooth brush removes a lot. Then dry it very well and let it air dry.
Tape or a very soft cloth hot water and dawn dish soap. Polish will remove it.
Yep, scotch tape.
Use the satin finish tape, not the clear tape.
Can't tell how bad it is by the pic, but I've saved a few that way.

Just tape over the etch, then carefully cut out around the etch. Now you can get to it with flitz, or Maas, or what ever.
Note: the tape will pull off any gold, that has rust under it. (Typically)
YMMV
Thank you very much for the pointers. I am going to try my hand at getting these back to shave ready condition so we will see what happens.

For plain ol' cleaning, I use my finger tips and dawn. No tape necessary. Just be careful of that edge.
I think the metal is slightly tarnished at least others in the lot are. I will start with the least invasive and work my way up.
