Razor Handle and A Question

I am taking a machinist course for the fun of it and I always wanted to learn this skill. We had two projects in class and after that we could make our own projects.

I decided I would make a razor handle for a Maggard's slant head. Below is the result - again this is a first try and I tried to stick to a basic design for now. I originally was going to make it in brass but the material didn't show up in time so I grabbed a piece of aluminum. I am going to try my hand at anodizing but it is usable for now.

My question is for anyone else out that that has machined a handle. The Maggard's head uses a 10-32 thread. Does anyone know if the other razors use the same thread or are the different companies using different threads?

I shave with straights but keep my DE's for those days I am rushed to get out the door.

From what I have read, you are pretty safe using #10-32 threads for a DE razor handle. There is a metric thread too that is similar M5X0.8.

Thanks - that really helps. I only have two Maggard's heads on my modern DE's but haven't checked out my old Gillette's. After switching to straights I haven't really looked at acquiring any more DE's like Wolfman or ATT so I have no idea there.

You are welcome. The Wolfman DE head takes #10X32 threaded handles just like any 3 piece vintage Gillette DE in case you ever consider getting one.

Very nicely done! I have absolutely no idea how the knurling is accomplished but apparently you figured it out quite well.

Nice handle :D the knurling tool we have at work is two wheels you just basically force into the piece you are turning. Is the one you use similar in function? Your knurling is way nicer than what I can accomplish with ours. Maybe our work one is wore out??

The one I used has two wheels. Do you angle the knurling tool or run the wheels flush the length of the tool? If the teeth are clean it should be fine and not worn out.
