I like Steam the best as it is accurate and easy to use
By doing this on a Brass plate I can adjust as needed, I do it 3-4 times and let the Katalin relax slowly and cool it under cold water to hold
If I want I can add a Tin Funnel over the pot and get a direct jet of super heated steam to adjust Horn, Bone, Ivory.. It just works for me pretty easy..
The Brass acts as a heat sink and keeps everything even

Been using a Hot Oil Bath for Straightening Raw Horn slabs, that has been working REALLY well, I will do a write up here soon
Why do you call the material Katalin when I call it celluloid, Glen?
It is all types of Celluloid, Bakelite, or Formed Phenolics (phenol formaldehyde)
But much like they are all Thurigens but some are Eschers and we make that distinction
The Cracked Ice or Swirled type is often referred to as Catalin or Katalin by collectors.. :)
I always thought Catalin was the clear type on the Adoration De-Luxe? Indeed, sounds better than celluloid! :D

I am going to de-scale a few I have in cracked-ice/tortoise celluloid to clear-coat them and see if they do not last longer.
Them Goldedge scales....
May be a good candidate as they are unpinned and straightened?
Do they have the White Coating inside ??? Also yes you are right the Clear is also often called Catalin
A few Old Hess razors and such. Thin lamination of white inside, like the Goldedges.
They way I understand it and it seems to bear out, is that the White coated ones are a more stable compound...

I have several examples which need straightening at times.
Tired of messing with them. Straighten and coat. See if lack of air will stabilize them?

I have a similar warping issue with one the scales of my C-Mon. Fortunately, it doesn't interfere with closing the blade.

great work brother! i actually came across a blade with a pin that looked like that, i was wondering how in the hell it happened... so its from pounding on the pin too hard on the original restore or from someone trying to tighten the pin?
