Wondering how many sets of scales you could get out of a 9x11 sheet. Guessing if cut at a little bit of an angle maybe 6 sets? Interesting. Guess it would be safer to wait for someone to cut some scales out of this stuff first but I might be wanting to give this a try too.
It's been a while because of work but I thought I'd report back that I bought the simulated ebony and ivory sheets. I haven't made scales from them yet but I hauled them out recently because I was making scales. They ebony sheet is still flat, but the ivory sheet has developed a lengthwise bow to it. They were stored at about 70 F in a humidity controlled environment, laying flat, so pretty ideal conditions.
Because of their width it won't be a problem -- with a sheet of these dimensions it's natural to cut scales across rather than lengthwise and the bowing won't be noticeable across the width of a scale, but just thought I'd report back on that.
