I have an old Clauss razor that I am restoring. The blade and scales are in good condition. I notice, however, the scales are not nice and smooth. I know celluloid can be an unstable material, but in this instance they show no overt signs of breaking down. I am wondering what is the best way to polish, restore, clean celluloid scales?
For a few years I'd sanded them with 2K wet and dry sandpaper then used a cloth wheel and a hand held drill with some 3M Plastic Polish followed by some automotive paint wax.
Since I got my buffer I basically do the same but instead of the plastic polish I use some CrOx on a buffer wheel and then usually I don't use the wax.

I just sand with 800 grit finishing with 1000, 2000 & 2500. Followed with Mothers polish.
I follow the same process as Bouchie. Never have used a buffer. I don't have a hell of alot of luck with power tools :)
