Had the same problem once or twice. Ever since then I add a CA coating. Luckily it responds well to that.
This material can also have little air bubbles. I fill those with CA.

Here are some that are 6 inches:

Yeah if they were long enough I would probably order them, even if a lot of the material would get wasted using 1/4 blanks.
Ordering a specific size has been mentioned, and although I'm considering it, there is a huge downside. There is no way of knowing what the final product would look like unless you were able to pick the burl and color yourself. And if you were able to do that I'm sure they would charge for the extra trouble. It is still a possibility though.
Hey, the link I just posted was to a page that has 6 inch scales. In your original message, you said at least 6", then mentioned wanting to copy a pair that is 6 1/4. If you think you can get away with 6", then they should work.
It may be that the view you saw showed the shorter ones at the top of the pages, but they have quite a few 6" ones.
I when I use hybrids like that, I have started to always do a CA coating, even if it shows no signs of separating.
By applying at least 1 layer of ca, you really close the bond between the 2 materials to that invisible defects stay that way :D
Plus I've found that CA really deepens the colors of the wood.
