price confusion @ CS

Looking over my current stock of blades, I realize some of them need new scales, and some of them just need cleaning which would best be done without scales on.

I looked over at classicshaving.com and saw that the DOVO repinning kit containg two silver pins, two silver collars, and two blade bearings are $13. However, if I buy DOVO synthetic scales, it comes with two silver pins, two silver collars, and two blade bearings (one of the silver pins is already installed in the butt of the scales) for $11.

Am I missing something, or shouldn't the repin kit without scales be something like $1.29, instead of $12.99?????:shrug:

That price is for 5 sets of what you describe! two silver pins, two silver collars, and two blade bearings.

It's easier and much cheaper to make your own pins from 1/16th brass or steel rod and #0 washers from microfastners.com

Has anyone tried peening a 1/16" steel rod?

That's pretty much what you get with the Classic Shaving repair kit. It takes awhile. One of the restorers here recommends heating the rod to red hot and letting it cool naturally to improve malleability.

I think its a better choise to use alpacca (nickel-silver) pins instead of steel, i find it easier to peen and more rust resistent and good looking , i use it in my little project and function well.
