My bone after cleaning and drying...
Attachment 292589Attachment 292590
Now if i can get a little time today i will cut it up.
Nice. That should make enough wedges to last YOU month or two.
Gonna bleach it with peroxide?
Wedges are a surprisingly great subject!
They are small and don't necessarily have the same specific requirements as scales.
So some really cool options. I've never used a bone wegde yet but I cut some out of big cow bone as well as scales. Now that's quite a task! Haven't used them yet.
I probably need to straighten them as it was hard to cut them and sand them to make both scales even, because I had to cut them out of different sections of the bone. ... limited thickness..
Smelly working with!!!
If I ever make my own bone blanks I would like to try letting ants do the work then bleach with peroxide. I never get to make scales so that is a long way off though.
Thanks for the link. Guess i will give it a long soapy bath then a soak in peroxide. Going to set these scale back anoth week. Oh well. Id rather have clean white bone.
Good point Vic. Maybe i will cut it in half and do one piece white.
I cant hold off on the finish of the scales so i will have to do wedges the hard way to make the wedge outer shapes right. Its so much easier to get shapes right bolted together.
Oh well, its all fun.
The white piece is getting nice and white. The one drying is looking a bit dry! Wondering if maybe i should put whatever pieces i cut out of it in some neetsfoot after a while? Or just let it be?
Light mineral oil.
