Hi.
For years, I've used coca-cola as a rust remover on various metal objects. It works very well. I had a couple of razors with light surface rust so, I tossed them into an aluminum pie pan and soaked them for 1/2 hour. It did in-fact remove the rust but, the cola reacted with the aluminum and it coated the blades with a dark, hazy covering of aluminum.
It polised-up just fine so, no harm done but, in the future, I will use a plastic or glass container...

The major cleaning component in Coca-Cola is phosphoric acid.
The pH of the stomach is around 1, so drinking a little phosphoric acid is not going to make too much difference.
I think it's the ascorbic acid in Coke that eats the rust. Ascorbic acit is an antioxident... Rust is oxidized iron...
FYI: Coke is NOT good for you at all.
A typical person only needs 40-50mg of sugar (distributed throughout the day) in order to maintain a reasonable energy level. A single 8oz serving of Coke has 45mg of simple sugar. Drinking several 12oz servings per day is wrecking havoc on your body's insulin, glucose and triglyceride balance. It's preferable to intake sugar from complex carbohydrates so, it will gradually release into your blood stream. Sugar is a simple (very simple) carbohydrate and it almost immediately dumps into your blood which forces an onrush of insulin; thus, the immediate energy boost. Since there's an excess of sugar, your body tries to strore it as fat. The ability to store it as fat is also limited so, the remainder becomes triglycerides. Triglycerides are bad news...

Not that I disagree with the health risks of drinking soda, but there are only 27g sugar in an 8-ounce serving of Coke. The younger generation tends to drink sodas by the liter around here.
You're right. The can of coke I'm looking at says 44g per 12oz serving. Somehow, I thought the serving size was 8oz. -My bad. Still though, 1 can of coke is all the sugar you need for a day.
Also, I mis-spoke... we get by on 40-45 Grams (not miligrams) of sugar a day.
Yeesh... I'm losing my ability to communicate (hmmm, maybe I can file for disability) :)
