I have an Improved Eagle razor that I acquired several months ago. While cleaning up after my last shave one of the scales cracked the whole way through near the top pin. Are replacement scales hard to install? Is it possible to glue the scale? I'll gladly do a bit of reading if someone would like to provide recommended resources.

Hi Ken. How about posting a picture. It will help us to give you the best options. I believe that is the scale is black it is most likely hard rubber. If thats what it is than a repair might not be an option.
Lets see a pic and what others say. If you have a few basic tools new scales can be made. I enjoy making them. Exotic woods can turn out some nice looking scales.
Pics would help, but if their plastic, you'll have to either make new ones, or buy replacements that will probably need slight adjustments made, for a better fit to the blade.
Horn, bone, ivory, can be repaired.
I did save a set of cellulose scales ( once ).

They were broke in half, so I dug out a groove in each half, of the inside of the scale and placed a piece of toothpick that had been split in half, in the groove. I used scotch tape to hold the two pieces of scales together, from the outside, and to keep the epoxy from leaking through.
Once set, a little sanding, a bit of CA, bit more sanding, and polished. They survive.!!

To make Mike’s technique work, he did not tell you about the dance you have to do, while spitting flaming wild turkey and holding one leg of a recently killed headless chicken and spinning it around your head and the razor to be repaired. Not to mention you have to be Naked, and then there is makeup involved and the secret chant.
Post a pic, it’s easier.

So if you really want to keep it dressed in the same scales let me know. I will fix you up, Ken. But if you want to make some cool wood scales, I guess let me know. I can help you to make a new set. You can cut them out and get a good start on them at my place. OR, Just jump right in. Read about it and make a new set. Up to you.
I've managed to CA repair two scales broken through the pivot hole. One was before I joined SRP. Since, I've learned they might not hold, but the first one I did has held for a few months and some very pleasurable shaves. I put a piece of painters tape over the inside of the broken area leaving it a bit long, set the broken piece in place as tight as I could and stuck it to the tape. Pieces are held together by the tape, when you bend the tape it opens the crack for a drop of CA, straighten the tape and hold in place until dry. Sand/polish to the finish of your preference. The last one I fixed is here https://sharprazorpalace.com/worksho...uestion-3.html. I finally got it honed (gave me fits for a couple of days) and will be testing it out this weekend. I don't know if these fixes will last, but so far they're holding and I figure it they do give up new scales were meant to be.

If Jerry doesn’t have the right fit for your Improved, I may have some, I too collected them for a little while though Jerry has a far more extensive collection than I.
Hey Guys! Sorry I have not been online much at all since my last post. Grad school, work, and family life have been keeping me fairly busy which is a good thing lol. Jerry, yes those scales look like what I have. The crack is clean through essentially putting creating two pieces but it's a clean break. Here is an image. Sorry for the absence and delay.
Jerry, I'm off not this Sunday/Monday but the following and can carve out some time to meet up if you able and willing.

When you habe the time clip that pin off on the broken side with some side cutters. Pull the blade out ane put some metal polish and steelwool on it. Try to clean up that blade a bit if it needs it. Bring the parts with ya. I might have one matching scale to replace the broken one. If not we can just replace them.

Fedfire/Ken stopped by the house today. He didn't have the time to hang out and watch or get in on the fun of fixing his razors up. He just dropped it off. I found he was using a Van Der Hagen brush so I loaned him a badger and synthetic brush to try out so he could see the difference it makes. We chatted for a few minutes.
He gave me this rusty broken razor to fix. LOL. It was just surface rust. It has some serious chips in the edge and I feel it's been cut short by a 1/8 inch + but its a decent Imperial razor. So I'm fixing him up in the SRP way!
Sorry, no before pics but a little sanding, polishing and a minute on the buffer. Mocked up in a set of scales. Ready to be pinned later tonight. Then I will put it on the synthetic stones and hone it up to 20K. He also gave me another Razor that is in serious rusty shape. It will not clean up but I will do a little cleanup and hone it for him. Also major chips in the edge so I got some work ahead of me. So Ken, Here is what your Imperial looks like now. I know you will enjoy it more than before...

You can see the blade etch is not centered any longer. Snipped off on the tip just a little.

Yes, I did Shaun. It is just a little shorter as I dug out the same razor from my collection to match it too. Its not much. Maybe the tip broke off at one time and someone cut it. They did a good job of it. Nothing to complain about.
I got it finished and honed along with his other razor. Shave test in the morning.
Here is a pic of the tip. Oh, And it closes centered as ever! Looks like a new razor now!

I now know what a truly sharp razor feels like. Holy cow was it nice. I had a three week beard, prepped with a Proraso pre-shave and used my Proraso Red after a hot towel face wash. My hairs didn’t stand a Chance. Using my Imperial that Gasman did some amazing work too felt great. The square tip got a good bite to my cheek! About an 1” long, maybe a touch longer. A little too much pressure, and I feel that my razor was never nearly as sharp as it is now. Using my Genco tonight but am ready for the truly amazing edge this time.
Jerry has come a long way, in a short time. Something I wish , for all new to the game. He can guide u through the maze of it all, and the rest of us are glad to help as well.
We learn from each other, so we can pass this knowledge to the next, and so on. So pass it on, once ya got it.

It's a nice feeling when you can pull thru the whiskers and feel next to no resistance! Hope the cut wasn't too bad. Battle scars from learning the straight. But they are normally so fine they heal up nicely.
I find that as I age the shaving scars and the wrinkles kind of blend together. It’s all evidence of a life lived.
