G10 Liner Thickness and Source?

I'm thinking I'll line that mallee burl from another thread with G10 for stability. I'm taking it to my friend's house tomorrow for stabilizing too. Can someone who does this tell me what thickness they use and where they get it? Thanks-Aaron

Looks like .030" is the right thickness. I'm now thinking this is going to be my next project.

I get mine from from Alpha Kife Supply and I get it in 0.030ish. You can get it in half that thickness too, I have never used it that thin but it likely would work. G-10 is crazy strong.

Tim-I have always done everything in my life backwards. I currently have about 2 dozen naked blades to play with, including a beautiful Henckels Platinum, Shaun. I'm sure I'll find something that speaks to me.

Okay, I've got black .020" G10 sheets ready to go; apparently the.030" is back-ordered. So I hope to cut and epoxy some G10 to some stabilized burl scale material tomorrow. How thick on the scales? I was thinking maybe around .090"? Thicker to compensate for the flimsier G10?

Opinions welcome from those who have done this! My goal is still to incorporate/refine a new skill with each build to broaden my repetoire. And since I now have stabilizing capability and lots of stabilized burl on hand, this seems like the logical next step.

Over all thickness should not change. If it get thick it gets less nimble and fussy people will not like to strop with it, so I say 0.090 is a good total thickness. It is still thin and nimble. G-10 is crazy strong and need not be thick to add a ton of strength to your build. On the flip side of theclogic is that you still want a reasonable sow from the Burl on the edge, which again at a total of 0.090 it should look great. I think that the 0.020 G-10 is likely a better choice than the 0.030 but when I bosught far too much G-10 it was both the stocked and suggested thickness. Perhaps we should trade some small pieces.

I like what Rez said, but I'd say to shoot for between .080 - .090 total in the end.

Shaun-I'd be happy to trade some pieces with you. Is your .030" G10 black? I'm pretty sure that's the only color I plan to use (no other color makes sense to me just as a backer for a beautiful burl).

I use 0.5mm and the 1mm G10 fine
