Suggestions for new Scales?

Hello,

Been awhile since I've been here! I still have my first straight razor I purchased off of a forum member here back in 2013: a vintage 40's Dovo.



It's been kept in good condition over the years (it was fully restored when I purchased it) - and had it professionally honed a year or two ago. I never particularly liked the scales (black plastic/acrylic). I would like to purchase some nicer scales for it: probably some heavy(ish) dark wood? Ebony? Perhaps a dark horn?


Any suggestions (companies or forum members) would be appreciated.

I will post up some pictures of it when I return from work this weekend.

I'm sure there is an abundance of ppl willing to help.

Yes, welcome back to the group. Depending on where you are, as said, and how far you want to go. And how much money your willing to spend. And what it looks like now. A full restore or just a set of scales made. Lots of us can do it. You could do it too if you have a few tools and the time.

Buying premade scales dont always work well. Blade sizes and shapes are not all the same. But if you send it to one of us a new set could be made.

I'm in Los Angeles now. I quit my job and traveled 2,300 miles with just a (small 2 door) car-full of stuff, this razor was one of the items. :)

Just a set of scales - it's in very good condition now. I travel for work now and will post up a picture of it this weekend.


Not too sure what ballpark I can expect for just scales: but I plan on keeping it for awhile.

I know a lot of us to make scales. But it really for ourselves. Two guys that come to mind that could help ya. I will send a PM to ya, From there it's up to you. But the best way about it is to talk to these guys, or one of them, send your razor to them so they can custom make the scales to your razor. This way they fit perfectly and are properly pinned.

Go the horn option
I do them in Australia but there are a few a others a bit closer to you I think
