I think it’s unlikely that the blade grew. I have heard that horn scales can shrink.

Yup, scale shrinkage. Short of rescaling you could try sanding down the wedge inside the scales at an angle from top to bottom. You may get enough clearance to close the blade.

A hacksaw blade between the scales to shorten the wedge works for me but from your pictures you don't have enough room before you hit the pin. You can take the set off the sides of the teeth to protect the scales.

......so the scales got cold and wet which caused "shrinkage"?
    .................maybe...........?
The scales don't look that old like bakelite,.......what else could cause this shrinkage?

As has been said, the scales have shrunk. It happens.

While it may not be of any help. Can you see of the wedge has rotated toward the pivot (the pin is loose) thus reducing the clearance ? If it has then 'Perhaps' you can then use the hacksaw trick------------It's worth a shot.

That shrinkage thing was just for giggles.

The razor does not look that old. If it is old, it is in remarkable shape.

The Dovo Special is available at a lot of wet shaving sources. Have you thought about sending the photos to Dovo? They might surprise you and offer replacement scales.

Classic Edge sells identical replacement faux tortoise scales: https://classicedge.ca/index.php?rou...rch=Dovo+scale

    Hope this helps.
