Outback, how thick is the brass you used as liner? I've found a supplier in Calgary who has 3/32".
Look at Lacey West is Vancouver. It’s a couple of extra days in shipping but they have a good selection of brass, nickel silver sheets.
Thanks Rez, I just took a look and I am going to order a few pieces.
Here in the US, you can buy brass sheet stock at most hardware stores and at hobby model maker shops.
It is inexpensive and cuts easily with a fine tooth coping or jeweler’s saw and shaped with files and sand paper.
The hobby place I normally use in RD does not stock brass anymore and the place in Calgary doesn't have the correct thickness.
What thickness do you use? Or is that a closely guarded secret that you need to have the arm wrestle of death in order to obtain that information?
I would gladly answer your question but it has been many years since I last made a set of scales and even longer since using liners. But, if I recall correctly I used 0.1" thick brass sheet.
The other guys will respond soon and correct me with better, more recent info.
Also, please be aware that doing this will make your scales much stiffer. Perhaps to the point that you will need to make a new wedge.
Thanks Randy.
The last stuff I used was 0.016"
It was a little heavy for my liking but it was still somewhat flexible. I think I'd try thinner on my next try.
Now we have to Leg Wrestle to the death!
