Hello guys,
Came across these razors very sad to see but is this is likely cell rot? Please see photo..
Says on the description that they are tortoise shell but likely not? Or could this just be rust? With the tortoise shell scales..
Shame though whatever rusted to the edge and obviously got the nasty chip.

Sure looks like cel rot. What a shame.
Pretty typical for those scales. All the ones I had started gassing off. Trash man has um now.

Such a shame. Many razor hang around for years unnoticed only to be discovered too late.
My old Barber ,now retired, owned a Barber shop with his Brother that I was a patron to for near 32 years. Old school vibe, I loved it!!
They both gave me razors and started me off with straights. I never looked back.
The older had given me 3-4 razors one time. He had a display case with a strop, a straight, mug etc.
One of the razors he gave me was a large Puma,same scales, unopened. When I opened it there was a crust. So far from saving at this point.
Such a shame!!
I managed to to clean up and polish the others.
When finished I brought him one of the razors all cleaned up and honed,a Fontana from his Era, great shaver and looked good too.
I said put this in the case instead of the one in there. He really liked it!
Thing is, even those in the trade at that time werent really aware of it. They stopped using real straights years earlier and went unnoticed too.
Very cautious around scales like that. The yellow part of the scales is always worse so I assume it starts there for some reason. Point of origin it looks like. Yellow colors always more prevelant.

I think a lot of it has to do with transparency. Ask a Duck collector which ones he keeps an eye on the most....:confused:
