I saw one of these swaybacks on eBay a few months back. It didn't look nearly as cool as this one, but I wanted it anyway. Unfortunately I was outbid.
Stellar work, Buddel.
I emailed a Chinese friend to find out for you, but I have a funny feeling it may not be Chinese, could be a very old form of Chinese but the characters relly look unusual, if you know what I mean.
Very nice razor though, love the handle and the way when closed, the blade lines up with that little notch.
Thanks a lot for your investigation. The problem is, I dont know someone from the middle east. But perhaps has an other member more informations for me.
It may be Hindi - I am not sure but that is what I thought when I first saw this, or something from that region. Whatever it is, it is a beautiful piece of work.
It does not look middle eastern or arabic. I've seen quite a bit of it over the last year, and that doesn't look like it, unless it is some highly stylized version, which is...possible. It does bear some resemblance to a more eastern language, possibly sanskrit, hindi, or bengali. But that is just a best guess on my part.
Edit: Looks like it belongs to the Sanskrit family, but that's just my opinion. Wiki - sanskrit and make your own judgment.
Could be stylized hebrew perhaps?
Most certainly not any Indian script. More likely it is stylized Hebrew.
Sorry guys, I read, write and speak Hebrew fluently and that doesn't look a damn thing like it. Not even like archaic forms found on the dead sea scrolls.
If anything, it reminds me of Anglo Saxon runes (though it's not exactly that either).
