Thickness of the Wedge

I was given a W&B blade (only) by a friend. It is in need of a clean-up and I am trying to do that too, for the first time. I made a set of scales for the blade out of a piece of black cherry but I can't figure out how thick to make the wedge. Is there some sort of criteria as to how thick the wedge should be? I am thinking it should just allow the blade to center between the two sides without touching either side. I'm not sure what material to use for a wedge but I will probably use another piece of contrasting hardwood.

Any advice on the wedge thickness would be appreciated.

It depends on the size of the blade and personal taste really. I think anywhere from 1/16" to 1/8" is kinda standard. Probably closer to 1/16" on original scales, but they were usually wedge shaped themselves, allowing the scales to flare apart then be pinned back together at the pivot.

Thanks for that. I never thought about making the wedge, wedge-shaped. I suppose I should take a closer look at the two or three other razors I have here. Thanks again. It will be a few weeks before I can get it all together but I will post a photo if it turns out.
