Thanked: 9jewelers rouge, maas, etc
Now that my blade has been sanded to 2000 grit paper, I've got myself one of these kits with red and white rouge, and I also have some maas. My question is, which is the higher grit, red rouge or Maas?

After the 2k, I go straight to Maas with great results. I think the red rouge is courser than Maas but I am not sure about the White rouge. Wish I could add more.

Thanked: 9Heres what I found. I did some general Maas-ing around the blade. It shined it up real well, but I could still see some scratch marks. Then I went to white rouge. It clouded it up a bit, which means the white is more coarse. But thats ok, because it took out some more of the scratches. Thats cool, lets keep going.
I know red is less coarse then white, so I did red rouge next and it became less cloudy, removing a lot of the haze the white put on. Awesome. Then I did more Maas and the blade looks spectacular.
Looking back, I'm not sure I needed the rouge. Right from 2000 grit paper, the Maas does one heck of a job shining it up, but if you do the rouge first, I think there are less scratches overall. And for 4.99, you can't beat that rouge and buffing wheel combo from Harbor Freight.
Other thoughts: I wish I had the rouge that came in a paste. It was hard to tell how much stuff I got on the buffing wheel, and it doesn't give a lot of tactile feedback holding the blade to the wheel, I'd much rather be scrubbing it on with papertowel like I do with the Maas. It does come in a paste that you can get, as well as other colors on a spectrum of grits, but I don't know how they progress except that I know white comes before red.
