My first scale attempt ... still a work in process
I purchased on the cheap a 4/8 barber notch JR Torrey a while back. Scales were slightly warped and while not impeding the closing of the razor they were not aesthetically pleasing. Using many of the hints and tips posted throughout the forum, I decided to attempt making some scales. I am still not finished the process as seen in the pics but thought I would post where I am at so far. Constructive criticism more than welcome!
Scales are Honduras Rosewood, wedge was made from a piece of birch flooring that I had kicking around (I was looking for a contrasting wood) - will be redoing the wedge as it isn't fitting correctly due to sanding too much on the end, all brass hardware are from Micro Fasteners (which just arrived today!)
All was done using coping saw and hand sanding (while sitting in lawn chair having a beer or two :)). I haven't decided on a finish yet ... may just go with a clear varathane or tung oil. Thoughts?
