1/8%26quot%3B Chip on the corner of head - Salvageable?

Just as I was feeling somewhat proficient with the razor (it's been about 3 months), I dropped it this morning and took out an 1/8" chip on the (whole) corner of the head and the cutting blade edge. I'm relieved that I still have all my appendages, but I'm really bummed about the chip.

It is Genco President that I bought in an antique store for about 30 bucks. It has a rounded head, and I believe it's stainless steel.

I'm worried about safety concerns, reading about the dangers of chips. But also, I'm trying to find an excuse to buy a new blade (not the best idea for my financial situation).

Is the razor salvageable with the corner missing? Is it worth trying to save? Is it usable if I re-hone it?

Which end of the blade is the head? The end farthest from the pivot or the end closest to the pivot?

A picture would really help but by the sound of it, that chip should be able to be honed out. You could also shorten the blade a touch, round the point some, etc
Of course if there are cracks radiating from the chip all bets may be off.

I am at work now, but will post a pic when I get home. But if your imagination is colorful, just think what the razor might look like if a bionic mouse took a bite out of the corner (1/8" radius) where the blade meets the rounded head. it looks rounded inward.

Ummm...not at all? That point will be hella sharp, and the moment you have inattention while shaving, you'll end up in the ER needing stitches - please remember that a properly honed straight is often *more* sharp than a surgeon's scalpel!

I'd send it to one of our resident restoration experts and have them alter the tip for you - it will be your best bet, all things considered.

Of course, YMMV.

I will be interested in what can be done in an instance like this.

An alternative to using a Dremel would be to "grind" down the tip on a hone (this will likely put some serious wear on the hone, so try to use a hard one, and don't use your favorite one). Many people "mute" spike point razors in this method, and even if you just round out the bite and then blunt it so it's not a sharp edge you might be able to shave with the razor.
