Good luck! That one on top especially will be really nice!
They both look great....Good luck and keep posting pics.:gl:
Thanks all. I am working with Bocote, and Cocobolo. I found it here.. . . Woodworking Plans & Tools | Fine Woodworking Project & Supplies at Woodcraft. Very nice folks, and they happen to be just around the corner. They have various woods ready cut in 1/8" x 3" x 24". The razors are both 7/8 Friodurs. They honed quite easily, and hold a wicked edge.
I cant hold a candle to some of the artisans here but I promise pictures of the final product.
I am really enjoying this. My RAD has kicked into overdrive!
Good luck! How many layers of tape did you have to put on the scallop back to get it to hold the edge? Look forward to seeing them!
I use no tape at all!. This is my second Friodur and both have honed well with no tape. 25 laps on my Norton 8k, followed by a good stropping (pasted black). For a keener edge 10 strops on linen pasted with .5 micron diamond paste. (.25 is way too harsh!)
I love the blades.
You may have got lucky. There have been several guys who have had problems with getting the edge on the scalloped back blades to endure. They get very sharp, but don't last long. I got the best edge out of mine with 3 layers! It's holding up very well now. Also going straight from the BBW to Thuringian improved it drastically.
I have heard some of the stories. I held my breath until it arrived. It was mailed from Solingen, Germany. I hear there is some NOS coming out of Poland as well. Didn't Lynn or another seller have some stock back in 2005?
John Crowley usually has a few in. Here.
Custom Handled Henckels Friodurs : Shaving Shop - luxury classic wet shaving products - straight razors
Not sure if they're from the same stash as the Polish seller.
I cant hold a candle to those jewels! Same blade !:tu
What a learning experience! And fun! I apologize for the bad pics.
Very nice, I think you have the proportions right. Those big Friodur blades deserve man-sized scales. I have one (in lesser scales) and I enjoy it more than any other of my razors. At the risk of resurrecting another thread, it does feel "badass."
Nice work man, I hope when I try a restore it comes out at least half as nice as that.
There you go! You're a man now my son. And with two at once on your first time. That deserves bragging rights. :D
