I watched pinning 101 on youtube and the guy mentioned a 4 oz. I can only find an 8 oz at home depot and lowes. Is that too much?
Thanks for any help

Update
Never mind I found a jewelers supply store 10 minutes from my house with plenty of stuff. It's in Dallas but I think they'll ship out.
The website is http://www.rockbarrell.com/

I like a 4oz myself. I've seen it done with a the bottom of a large serving spoon. Kind of a huge tablespoon. An 8oz might be too heavy and damage the scales or pin  then again it might be okay ....... guess it depends on the hand of the user.

+1 on the 4oz.
If you already have one that is heavier, you can avoid buying a 2nd by "choking up" on the handle. I did a pinning with a 10oz without problem. just be careful not to hit too hard.

I have both a 2oz and 4oz.
I used the 4oz for a very long time until I got myself a 2oz. Now I mostly use the 2oz as I favor it but I use them both.
If I could only keep it one, the 2oz it would be. YMMV but you can't go wrong with either. Some even manage using 8oz hammers.
