dimple in a jewelers anvil?

I'm just getting into restoration and I've watched/read things about pinning. Everything I've seen has a small dimple in their anvil or hammer for setting the pin. How can you do that to solid steel? I have a Dremmel and a drill.

Seems a drill would suit the purpose. I suppose a drill that corresponds to how much mushrooming you want to happen to the pin.

Just use a bit designed to cut metal... heck.. I just used a masonry bit on my drill and put a dimple in the side of the head of an old regular hammer. That works fine, and didn't need to buy an anvil.

It took about 2 seconds to drill out the dimple. I made the first one TOO deep, I didn't think it would be so fast ;)
