Please help me save this Friodur

Well, I may be way over my head on this project. Just wanted your opinion. Can I save this blade by myself or should it be sent out. Admittedly I am early into this road. I have 7 str8s, 5 of which I have picked up at antique shops in various states of dis repair. I can shave with all of them. Does this mean I know how to restore this blade? Probably not, but I love the challenge and I like the potential of this razor.

My equipment so far includes a 1.2k dmt, 4k/8k/ Norton and 12k chinese. The main chip is about 2mm deep. The overall blade width I measure at 7/8. This blade doesn't appear to have been used except possibly as a can opener:nono:. What do you guys think. Oh I paid $12.50

It can be saved, but what the * did they do to the poor thing?

Yes, its saveable. Just needs a lot of TLC. Reading Glen's wiki article now.

Well.......that one has at least 1/8 inch of steel to go bye bye.......It should end up OK though. Definitely one to tape up.........hahahahahaha

Ok, the chip is sad but come on, you paid $12.50 for it! You're going to spend probably an hour honing that back into shape and then you are going to have a razor you shouldn't part with for less than $75. You got yourself a great deal on a great razor, but you're going to go through quite a bit of tape!

You could always bread knife it. Wait a minute thats already been done. :cry:

Thanks again from all of you. I just realized that I have a lower grit stone in My Norton lapping stone. Don't know what the grit is but I will look. I am hoping that the back side is flat, hard to lap the Norton with the Norton.:thinking:

Now serious, to solve this you need:

1) hone away 2 mm of steel;

2) hunt down the idiot who put the edge in that condition.
