You mention cosmetic polishing. It may be obvious but it's a whole lot easier & safer to do before its shave ready.
Can I ask a question of the guys that have power tools. why breadknife when you could take it to your belt grinder, hit it real quick and it'd be done? then set bevel and sharpen. thankfully I don't have any with big chips, but it seems that would work a bit faster.

I have to tell you, when I first saw the pics of the razor with that chip in it, it made me cringe. That looked hard to fix. But you really made lemonade with that lemon! Great save, looks great.:tu
