Pins and Washers are usually 0-80 or 1/16" diameter. There are places in the Wiki and other knife making sites that have them. As for scales, again knife sites have different materials available.
I went to a local barbers supply this morning to purchase a strop. When I
mentioned what I was doing the proprietor said he stocked plastic http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/pickin/pins.JPGreplacement
scales complete with pins. When I asked if they sold pins and washers separatly
I became side tracked and neglected to see what was available. He reached
into a box and gave me the selection shown for $1. I could go back and photograph
what he has available and get some prices. Oddly the 1/16" pins are slightly larger
than the holes in the finish washers and have to be driven in with some effort. I plan on going
back anyway to see if he'll sell me the rest of what he has in the box.
You have a mixed bag there with the pins, the ones with the sharp point and the little circles on the head are Dovo pins.. the round headed ones look to be similar to the ones sold on E-bay...
The Dovo lockwashers are tight and help lock in the pins even before peening...
That was a great buy if I were you I would go back and buy everyone of those I could....
Bud: the fancy washers are usually from a craft store, in the "beading" section, the easiest pins are the ones you make yourself out of 1/16 brass and nickel silver rod.... Classicshave has the Dovo pins for sale again but the price is NUTZ
If you are just looking for one set, let me know and I'll make you up a set....
I suspect these are old new stock and plan on going back to try to purchase the rest. He also sells replacement scales so some of these may be intended for use with them, I don't know. I experimented with a round head example. They are a soft white metal but not at all compatable with the finish washers. They do peen pretty easily and may not have used washers originally? They might look nice with brass or white metal washers on both sides. The flat headed/pointy pins have to be driven into the washers unless you were to ream the washers with an awl. But they would be great for restoration work, a very petite low profile vintage look. If it turns out they are available in unlimited quantity, I will post the contact information. If not and I am still able to purchase more, you will be #2 on the list, Jeff
