Any Hints on Polishing Plastic Scales Properly

I made a mistake today on a razor I was going to leave the original scales on. I tried to sand out some light scratches on plastic scales with 2000 grit and it just took all the shine out of them. I ended up putting a set of maple scales I had on it because I wanted the person to get a nice razor, but I would like to know a good way to restore the luster to it, because the scales are still un-warped and in good shape, they just need to shine. I was also wanting to knoe a good source for acrylic sheet with pre-formed designs. I bought my first faux tortoise shell from Texas knife supply and they have a small selection and they do not return my emails. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

I use those little 2 x 2 micromesh pads on plastics from 2400 all the way up (down?) to 12000 grit. Be sure to get those larger scratches out with the lower grits. The scales usually start getting shiny again at around 4000 to 6000. 12000 makes it look nicer.

After that, a little Maas then some Renaissance wax to finish it off.

Plastic????

OK there are products all over the automotive sections and in auto stores they have names like Plastic X, Scratch X, etc: etc: There are designed to remove scratches from the lexan and plastic headlamp covers on cars...

These work great for the scales... + 1 on the micromesh like Poncho said, but that stuff costs $$$$$

As to getting sheets of acrylic, cut to usable sizes :D you just have to do the same thing we all did which is use Google and the 800#'s that the websites list and beg whoever you get on the other end of the phone to please sell you some in a size less than a 4 foot x 8 foot sheet :gaah:

With enough begging I got some 1/8 x12 x12 sent out...

I use Flitz metal polish . It works great , it's all I need to use , so I don't need to worry about removing scratches from the lower grit abrasives ;).

Maas. Works great anytime after 600 grit sandpaper. Watch you don't let the dremel sit in one spot too or at too high of a speed.
