They are very cheap and flimsy plastic, the two sides barely meet up, and definitely not flush, on mine at least, and the blade can come out the backside if your not careful which is not only potentially damaging to the edge but also very dangerous. I only have one, so I'll let some of the other guys who have handled more tell you about some of the other pinning problems, etc.
They do get the job done, but it's kind of the bare minimum. Do you have a set of regular/nice scales to compare to? The difference is pretty clear...
Eh! Statement without ideas
The scales are bendy plastic, the pins are skinny cheap brass which look as if they have been hit in hap-hazardly.
BTW English owns the copyright to 'Bad Tempered' around here.
Quite right PJ, edited not to hurt the little Oiks feeling 8>)
I made my response a little gentler:rofl2:
I struggle to get a good first pass using my DA - I get a lot of stubble left under my chin. I was getting the same under my bottom lip, but changing the angle sorted that, so maybe it's my technique. I have no other singing razors to compare it to.
I do manage a good shave with 3 passes, so no real complaints tbh. And I tightened the pins so even the normal scales are usable. I've yet to try CrOx or taping the spine, so maybe I can get more out of the DA, but I want to persevere with the current state for a while before I go back to the hones.
The sound as you shave is great, it's like there's an amplifier built in. :rofl2:
Has anyone had the opportunity to take one of these razors through several honing cycles? How was the longevity of the edge and does it lose it's positive properties over the course of several honings? By that I mean is it harder to get to a keen edge after a couple of honings and does the edge quality deteriorate faster (or slower) than it does with a new blade? Just curious.
anyone have any advice for getting these to close semi straight?
I threw a new set of scales on them and thought i had it closing o.k. by putting 2 washers on one side. no dice.
