I tried making my first scales with the saw on my SAK, about 1/6th the rough first cut, I ran to harbor freight, and bought a coping saw for less than $5. Not as fancy as a band/scroll saw, but it works.
Go grab one, you will not regret it.
And honestly, not too bad for a first attempt. My second ones turned out worse(first were not too bad)
There are no shortcuts!
Don't feel bad. My first attempt at scales was sanding down and reshaping the biggest, ugliest, clunkiest wooden scales I've ever seen, refinishing, and re-pinning.
Messed the pivot pin up, and completely split the scales trying to remove that pin to re-do it.
Quoted for extreme truthiness.
not bad indeed.
Keep going !
Hey, at least it's a solid first try! Great start, would be sad if you'd quit now. Just try again, like icedog said: Next will be better :mace:
With practice you will achieve perfection!
