Restoring a frowning razor? Anyone want to try their hand at it?

So I made the mistake of buying a Fredrick Reynolds Sheffield off of E bay and now have an old razor with a frown on it. What can be done? Does anybody think they can restore this once proud razor?

Pics are always hard to tell, but it's the Toe that's wider, and the heel is narrower, correct...? It looks like it could be fixed, It'd have to be breadknifed, bevel re set, etc.., etc...etc....

i think even i can fix that. as rich said, i'd breadknife it to the edge shape I want and then reestablish bevel... no i wouldn't spend the time myself, that's why we have all this wonderful cheap labor called restorers :)

or if you have honing ambitions yourself may be a good one to learn what hones can do to a blade :)

Yeah, it's restorable. I like to use a stone with a fish hook groove for breadknifing blades like that.

Takes a while to breadknife out that much frown, then it takes a little while to reset the bevel, but a Reynolds is probably worth the effort.

I could send it to you and see if you would like to try your hand at it. I can take care of the postage and stuff, mail it to you and see what you can do with it to gain experience, what do you think?

BTW, where in Utah do you live?

I've done a couple of blades like that, so I know it can be done. I'll PM you some details.

I live in Provo, finishing a CS degree at BYU.

Nice, I graduated from BYU in 2006. I do miss the mountains and dry air.

I am in Houston, lol but if I was in 'Cougartown' I would love to have met up with you.

I am surprised at how many Utah/LDS members we have on SRP. Even though we are the most clean cut people on the planet.
