DIY Magnetic Sanding Jig (from old harddrive)

I dont take credit for this. But here is the magnetic sanding jig I made this weekend. Not the prettiest (I have limited tools), but it works...

I opened a hard drive, removed the magnets and cut the shell in half. Placed the magnets on the underside of the HD shell and mounted on a block of wood... I will be wrapping the rear block with something so I don't have to worry to much about wear...

also I forgot to mention I will be wrapping the hard drive shell in blue painters tape to prevent the blade from getting scratched.

Tape will not last long. If the metal surface looks decent I don't think you have to worry about scratches.

Nice big magnets. I used to have 2 broken harddrives laying around for maybe 3 years till I threw them away recently :(

But really, nicely done..
I think the older, like 20mb (remember those...) hdds, have a more solid aluminium housing, that don't have that top recess where that thin aluminium sheet is glued down... so it's a purer, flat bed for the blade to lie on... but if the blade sits flat on this then thats all that matters really...

Oh, I think I found a nice material for the underside...

Aluminum duct tape... The stuff the A/C guys would use to seal air conditioner duct work...
