scale inlays...

I did a search and found some before and after pics of transferring scale inlays, but nothing on how to actually DO it.

I did find a bit of information on how to carefully get the inlay out of the scale and it is wafer thin but came out nicely....made sure to buff it up before removing it.

So the question is: How would you recommend getting this back onto a TI acrylic replacement scale? Should I glue it on top of the scale or should I find a way to inlay it and if so...how to I create the recess? What type of glue (don't want to melt the scale or create an impossible-to-clean-up mess)

Depending on what the inlays are made out of, you could heat them up and press them into the acrylic directly.

I have done this in a different scenario and it worked great.
Just be careful to not overheat the inlays, and watch your fingers.
Also, make sure you outline where you want the inlay to sit ( I borderd mine with some tape.

then just sand down the raised ridges on the side of the inlay with a fine sandpaper and your good as gold

If you are going to follow maniotas1 advice, just remember to not sand through the inlay that you just carefully laid out. They are darn thin and are pretty easy to remove if you are not on the ball.

This begs for a Illustrated guide,, I would love to hear more and actually see pics of this technique...

When the funds increase I am looking at attempting doing some inlay work on some scales. I have a way to do it however I need the equipment first. At that time I am planning on doing a tutorial on the subject with instructions and pic's.

I got the scales in today

To tell the truth, I don't have enough technical aptitude to get the inlay hot and force it into the scales...I'd more than likely mess one or the other up (or likely both). I think I'm going to go with the gluing on of the inlay (ergo turning it into an onlay instead) since it's thinner than a sheet of paper.

What type of glue would you recommend so as to not make a huge mess, not melt the acrylic scales, and give it a tight fit?
