are we talking buying hones or a buffer?
yes sorry for the confusion
two different tools. you can't compare those. You can't buff your razor to a mirror shine on a hone (only the edge...lol) and try honing your razor on a buffer. Maybe with a grinding wheel. :D
If you already own honing stones and intend to work on razors and restoration get the buffer. If not get the hones first and try to get your honing up to par.
i dont have either and i will need both
I guess that kinda solves the problem..! If you need both I guess you'll need to buy both.
In terms of which to get first, get the hones. The reason being that its possible to shine a razor up pretty good with successivley finer grits of sandpaper but, as mentioned above, you cant hone on a buffer!
With a good set of hones and some sandpaper, plus some MAAS and a cloth, you can get most razors into a good shave ready state. All the buffer does is polish.
Hones first, buffer later.
Hones. A nice shiny razor that is dull may as well be a butter knife. :beer1:
gentleman,
first off thanks for all the advice. i have decided to get a set of hones. im just waiting for the money from my travels to drop in my account
