cleaning the makersmark

Im hand sanding and polishing for my first restorations, is there a low tech way to clean-out the stamp on the tang?

If you have a dremel, the felt pads that are soft will get into them with a little angling. However, I have always just tried to go straight over it, it just depends on your level of perfection that you seek.

A toothpick might do the trick. I have always just left it dirty, it contrasts nicely with the rest of the blade that way.

As a side note: I thought this thread had something to do with Maker's Mark.

Thanks I may get a dremel after all and yes leaving it darkend is most likely the best road just thought Id see what people do, and bourbon is allways good while working on a razor or anything else.

A toothpick with some metal polish will do the trick. But if you happen to have a Dremel, a brass wire wheel would be quicker. I know you said low tech tho, so the toothpick is probably what you are looking at using. A plastic toothpick would work better than a wooden one, IMO.

I know Harbor Freight stores sell them in sets cheap.

as the previous poster said, a dental pic, its easy to manipulate and get in all of the nooks and crannies. The dremel with the brass brush is great if you have one handy.
