A Case for restoration?

Pardon the pun, but I acquired this Case during a junktique store expedition and it has me pondering what the future for it should be.

Option 1 - A good hand polish, hone it and start using it warts and all.

Option 2 - Peddle it and use the proceeds to fund better shavers.

Option 3 - An all out, return to original, restoration.

While I can make a case for all 3 options, I am new around here and there are many things I don't know that should influence the decision.

Are Case's average or above average shavers?

Does it command a value as is that would allow replacing it with 2 or more shavers of equal or better quality?

Does it command a value fully restored that would warrant the expense of having it done?

Usually these decisions are easier but I have no experience with the Case brand and the clad tang is an unknown entity to me. I do not feel comfortable tackling this one yet, as I do not want to damage something that may be worth more than its value as a restoration trainer. I have plenty of others for that purpose.

Your thoughts please.

I would say yes to all 3 questions. But for now hone and polish and see if it fits your personal preferences as a shaver, then decide its fate.

That looks like an easy, not to intense cleanup job. Basically I would hone and shave, then decide if I like the shave it gave me, clean it up and keep or sell.

I'd go with option 1. Option 2 won't work, because Case razors are amazing shavers. For option 3, well, I don't think you'll get her to look much better, and the risk of damaging the covered tang while trying to repair it is pretty high.

Clean, sharpen and use for shaving. I have no idea on monetary value. To me the value of something tends to be determined by answering the questions: Is it something interesting? Do I like it? Can I use it?
I know people get great pleasure from restoring things to new condition, from automobiles to razors. I think, if possible, old things should be repaired to working condition and used as intended, the wear and other signs of age tell a story.

Sorry to get a little off-topic, but that razor looks damn-near identical (pretty much everything except the tail) to a Boker I recently bought and restored:

I've seen the same scales on various razors so that's not as surprising, but the shape of the razor seems, in my limited experience, pretty specific with the covered tang, notch, and maker's etch; the "B" on mine seems to be the same font used on the Case. Any explanation? Coincidence or were Case and Boker linked?

Thanks holli4 - this follows my original inclination.

The razor does not have any hone wear and I wonder if it has ever shaved. I must take care of that! This razor was made to be used, not sit in some display case and it has fallen to me to make sure that happens.

It appears it had been "played with" some and stored poorly during its life. It had some red paint or fingernail polish on it when I got it. The missing piece from the tang would not keep it from functioning as a shaver I know, but that somehow feels like driving around a classic car all buffed out missing a fender.

It can be fixed
