Hi Guys.
I just got this lovely Henckels model 49 1/2 and it is very good condition considering it saw action in North Africa and Europe during WWII.
The scales are original with Dancing Twins emblem. As you can see the end is snapped off just past the pivot pin. Any suggestions on what to do? If anything?

if you want to rescale, black paper micarta/ horn will give you as close to original as possible. Cheaper option black acrylic. If you want color and/or more exotic shapes the sky is the limit so to say.
I'd suggest send it out for restore.
Have it restored by a pro & scale it in ebony...my $.02
Ebony is great for replacing black scales. I like gaboon ebony personally...Quote:

Having had one rescaled by Philadelph in the past, if I had that razor, I would send it out for black carbon fiber scales here. A further touch of class ot an already classy blade. :)
It could also be restored to original leaving the scales attached, if you like them. Doesn't appear to be a functional problem, only cosmetic. Your call.
Don't go for the African blackwood if you are going for as close to black as possible with natural wood. Gaboon is the most black of all the ebony woods that I've worked with.

Here's the Two woods side by side (ebony is rough cut.). The African blackwood will be pretty dark, but as you can see from the photos, not near as close to black as the ebony.

The scales I have in ebony are as black as black can get. Pins really show with the contrast & I have the feel of wood...this is a personal preference of course. I just prefer wood & other natural material scales.
